Tahitian Dance Workshop
with Vaih Pater
October 13, 9am-12pm
Corner Stuart St and Tincogan
A rare and great opportunity to learn the Tahitian dance with a professional from Tahiti!
“Ori” means “dance or dancing”. “Ori Tahiti” is known as Tahitian Dance, is a dance that uses the body as means of expression, with the hands and the face and by moving the hips side to side or in circle. This practice is fantastic for your fitness and is very joyful.
In this workshop you will learn the basic steps, their variance and the techniques to perform them well. For experienced dancers this is also a great way to improve what you already know. In the second part of the workshop you will learn a routine with the detailed steps and hand movements based on a theme.
Born and raised in Tahiti, the lovely Vaih has been teaching tahitian dance on the Gold Coast since 2013. She started dancing from her very young age and was part of two dance schools run by Moeata Laughlin and Mehiti Hart. She performed in well known groups such as ‘O Tahiti E, Heikura Nui, Te Ori Here, Huriama,… and in 2002, she integrated Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti where she blossomed.
Learning and teaching is a never ending journey and despite her extensive knowledge, she has been attending workshops with Tiana Liufau, Makau Foster, Kohai, dance classes and completed the Ori Tahiti Level 1 and 2 at the Conservatoire.
With over 30 years of experience, Vaih won’t disappoint and you can be sure to walk away with lots of information, practice and move in your head.
