Curious Body is a fun explorative practice of movement & dance creation. In these sessions we aim to drop into a state of interest & awareness generating movement that is articulate & connected to our all sensing body. There are many tools to support this enquiry and Kimberley has been developing Curious Body over the last four years honing her ability to create a space for this kind of engaging movement to occur. The sessions also move through a creative composing space where we play with crafting what is emerging as we improvise as individuals, explore ensemble composition & responsive play. Though Kimberley teaches Contact Improvisation, please note that Curious Body is not C.I.
It is fun and open to all levels of movers. It is also an accumulative practice; the more you come the more you discover.
Movement Research is a laboratory for dropping in to the body, listening with intention and moving from impulse. It serves as a playground, a place to explore beyond habitual ways, witness the expression of the self and take care of what your body needs. Using imagery and textures while researching along with others stimulates new possibilities and a sort of co-creation of the moment. No dance experience necessary, everyone can access the benefit of connecting to their body and their unleashed movements. It is requested that participants enter mindfully.
WeMove has a range of classes for kids of different ages. We are dedicated to offering opportunities for young people learn, grow and thrive through movement and creativity. See a list of classes for this term.
These two hour master classes focus on alignment and movement research coming from specificity of boney connections as well as using imagination to find new physical pathways. We will warm ourselves up doing some deep alignment practices inspired by Klein Technique and Alexander Technique and then begin bringing them into the space using imagery and awareness to become soft, elastic and playful in our relationship to our bodies and space. We will encounter ourselves dancing through tasks and directives that allow us to become curious about different places to move from and how we begin to make choices in our discoveries in space. This is a series of classes in January only, don’t miss out.
Contemporary Dance is a vocabulary based movement class where structured dance exercises are practiced in order to develop the skills and strengths required to achieve complex combinations of choreographed and/ or free form movement. Foundation principles explored in this class include natural flow and fall of weight, joint release and recovery, momentum for movement efficiency. Toras’ clear focus on alignment and technique is tempered by a sense of fun and playful discovery. Those who are new to, or returning to contemporary dance will enjoy the friendly, non judgmental culture within the class.
